Chase Lee

I don't have much time to write, but I've been meaning to make this blog for almost two weeks now and have about 30 minutes of down time now, so no better time, right?

First, a mini back story...

In 2004, I started high school. I had a total of three friends at this time (I've always been Ms. Popular as you can see! ;) ). I became inseparable with two of these friends, talking with them on the phone when we weren't at school together, writing their break-up letters for them to send to soon-to-be ex-boyfriends (lol! Sad, but true), etc.

I'm still best friends with both of these girls and love them to death!! But, little did we know at the time, one of these friends and I would both move to the same town!

Then, on July 1, 2010, this friend (Brittany) had a tiny and adorable baby boy.

And his name was Chase Lee.

Almost two weeks ago, Chase had his second birthday party, and I was honored to make his choo choo birthday cake! And now, I've finally come to the whole point of this blog...lol, got a little sidetracked with my life story!

Here are some pictures of the cake I made! It was my first time carving a cake and covering it with fondant, so be forgiving, please! Click on the pictures to see the whole thing...as always!

Chase loved looking at it...or he just realllly wanted to play with the toy train I put on it!

So, here are some pictures of the big birthday boy!!! Love him soo much!

This is my favorite! He was making this face after his mommy lit the candles on his cake! He's a crack up even at two years old! ;)

Well, this short blog is not so short anymore, so I'll stop writing now!

'till next time,
Sarah

Tutu cute PIGtures

A few weeks ago, Heather decided to make a leopard tutu. I dont know if she was trying to multi-task or was just having a blonde moment (I can say that, I'm her sister! ;) ) but she accidentally cut a ton of tulle half the length it was supposed to be. So, considering we've probably spent hundreds of dollars on tulle alone, there was no way I was going to let all of those short strips of leopard cuteness go to waste!

Just as I was trying to think of a purpose for all of the tulle, I heard a little "grunt, snort snort, grunt" coming from the living room. I knew what I needed to do-make Scamper a tutu, of course! And it just so happened that the tulle was the perfect piggy tutu length!

So here's some "pig"tures of Scamp in her "bossy" shirt (which describes her well) and her new tutu! Just click on each picture to see the whole thing!

Her tummy was just a little bit chunkier than I thought so I had to add a ribbon extension to make it fit, lol!! So if I ever get around to fixing it, that tacky pink ribbon will be gone!

Thank YOU for your patience!!!

I'm almost embarassed to write a new blog because I said in my last one that I would post more often! I guess I just assumed I would have more free time as a grown up college graduate (lol!). Obviously I was wrong! ;)

Anyway, last night I had a some time and was home alone, so what better to do than make something new? I decided I am ALWAYS needing thank you cards (I guess I can't complain about that!) and feel like homemade cards are so meaningful so I dug through our completely unorganized craft room to find enough scraps, brads, buttons, stamps, etc. to make a few sweet thank you cards.

Originally I had planned to make a how-to on these cards but 7 different designs + an ipad that takes crappy pictures would probably lead to a really long blog with tons of confusing and burry pictures...So I decided to spare y'all ;) If there's a card that anyone is just dying to know how to make, write a comment and I will make a how-to for it! :)

I accidentally made these pictures the wrong size so they dont show the whole card, and I refuse to delete them and start over (it's past my bedtime!!). So just click on the pictures to see the whole thing!

Hopefully i will get another chance to blog soon (and when it's not midnight!!!)

Introducing...SCAMPER!

Lately I've been obsessed with the Food Network channel (I know, I know, I need a life! ;) ), especially Chopped and the Food Network challenges. So, the other day I was watching one of the cake challenges and felt inspired to make a cake!

I started thinking about what I could make a cute cake for, and then it hit me...Heather's boyfriend (Traber) and I got her a micro-mini pig for Christmas, and we were going to pick her up the next day. SO, I made the little piggy (even though she wasn't allowed to eat any!) a "welcome" cake for her "gotcha day"!

DISCLAIMER: The cake pictured below was made by a beginner and has several flaws so don't be too critical ;)

I made a carrot cake (out of a box of course, I'm not trying to be a chef or anything! ;) ) with cream cheese icing.

Then I added green food coloring to some of the icing and used a fancy icing tip that I had forgotten I bought (think I have a shopping addiction?!) to make the grass on the top. I also added some yellow food coloring to icing to make little ruffles on the side.

I found the little edible pearls at Walmart for about 3 bucks, and LOVE them if you can't tell! haha! The flowers were made out of fondant (pink that I bought and some that I dyed purple) with the pearls in the middle of each...so easy!

I found a tutorial for the fondant pig on www.videojug.com ...the step-by-step instructions they give made it pretty simple!

Then for the words.....they were the one part of this cake that I truly, TRULY hated making. I have horrible handwriting so I decided to make the letters out of fondant. A lady I used to work with (who now has her own bakery by the way! Impressive, huh?) told me that you can use the Cricut to cut fondant if you change the settings. That probably would have been very simple and fast, BUT my Cricut is my child! I could never forgive myself if something happened to him because I was making a pig cake (no offense, Scamper! ;) )!

So instead, I used an X-Acto Knife to cut out each letter. SO tedious and time consuming, I don't recommend it unless you have incredibly bad handwriting...even worse than mine! ;) After that, I added a darker sparkly pink edible gel to the letters to make them a little cuter! and that's it! So I might have to add another hobby to my long list--stamping, Cricuting (yes, it's a word...now!), painting, dancing, fishing, and now...cake decorating!

Ok, NOW I get to brag...about my CUTE nieces!!!!

My two nieces (Honey the Boxer and Scamper the mini pig) meeting for the first time...wow, imagine how crazy I will be if I ever have a human niece!!! lol!

Another cute picture of Honey and Scamper

I'll put up more pictures of Scamper soon but I ran out of room on my camera! haha!
